Embrace small successes to maximize your profit potential

What was the last thing you said to yourself? Not necessarily something you said out loud – likely it was a thought running through your head.

Were you kind to yourself? Did you compliment yourself or give yourself a round of applause? Or did you lament over the things left undone on your to do list or the goals not met – or that you hadn’t even written the to do list or set your goals?

I read. I read a lot, some of it is just trashy fun stuff. I just finished reading The Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod. Full disclosure, I have heard chatter about this book for months now and my first thought was that I was not interested in any book about “mornings”! Please, let me sleep in…….

So many things resonated with me in this book! Heck, I declare myself a morning person from here forward. Huge turning point.

This post focuses on the GAP. I am a CPA so generally the GAP I focus on is GAAP (generally accepted accounting principles). I work with small business owners to grow their companies by providing accounting and bookkeeping related services. I teach businesses how to be profitable. When it comes down to it, the single largest deterrent to profitability is often ourselves.

The GAP I focus on today is the GAP between where you wish you were/what you wish you had accomplished and where you are today.

Visualize this. It is the end of the day. A busy day – you had a long to do list and at the end of the day the majority of the list remains incomplete. You feel frustrated, overwhelmed and disappointed in yourself. I have felt this way more often than I care to admit. What if? What if instead of focusing on the tasks left on the to do list, we focus on the tasks we hit out of the park? The ones we checked off the list, no matter if big or small.

Allow yourself to celebrate every accomplishment. Allow yourself to feel the satisfaction of every success instead of measuring yourself by the list of things left undone.

We need that GAP, not to shame us over where we are today in relation to where we want to be, but to provide us with purpose. Allow yourself the sense of accomplishment and the belief that your desired destination is there waiting for you and use that GAP to your advantage.

What if at the end of each day, we focused on celebrating one or two accomplishments made that day – no matter the size? Write them down. Say them out loud. Acknowledge our gratitude, remind us of our purpose and visualize ourselves at our destination. I intend to find out and I invite you to do the same.
